2022 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championship Standings: Fifth | 7,832 points [244 points behind championship leader, Brad Sweet]

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (September 26, 2022) – It was an all-podium weekend for Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, completing their two-day, two-race sweep through the Buckeye State with back-to-back podium performances, highlighting the pair with a runner-up appearance at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, on Saturday, September 24. Although losing command at the initial start, Schatz battled from the runner-up spot the entire 35-lap distance. The ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion kicked-off the program with heat race and dash victories.

“I don’t know that we were missing anything tonight,” Schatz said after Sharon’s main event. “It was a great car, but Brad got up there first and I was too focused on trying to make the middle work to try and get him somehow. I really didn’t think it would go to the top like that. My guys put a new car together before yesterday and we’re off to a strong start with this one.”

One night prior in Eldora Speedway’s BeFour the Crowns Showdown, Schatz finished third; an impressive display after starting 12th on the feature grid. The Fargo, North Dakota, native challenged eventual winner, Rico Abreu, briefly for the top spot, but would ultimately fade to third.

“We just needed to get better at the end, and that’s a recurring problem for us,” Schatz said regarding Eldora. “We could kind of hang for three-to-five laps, but then I would just stall out. All I could do at that point was run the win back, keep the tires under it, and hang on. Rico didn’t make any mistakes tonight, so hats off to him. We’ll keep plugging away.”
