2019 World of Outlaws Championship Standings: 2nd – 8858 points (40 points behind Brad Sweet)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (September 30, 2019) – Donny Schatz’ recent three-race stretch was packed with frustration, ultimately forced to settle with a 17th place finish during Eldora Speedway’s 4-Crown Nationals opener on Friday, September 27, followed by a tough-to-swallow ‘DNF’ result due to mechanical woes at Lernerville Speedway on Saturday, September 28. Unfortunately, the pair of unexpected outcomes cost the Fargo, North Dakota-native the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship points lead, now 40 markers behind the Kasey Kahne Racing entry driven by Brad Sweet.

Despite back-to-back nights of hardship, the ten-time and defending World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion did find some light during action at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois, on Wednesday, September 25. Although forced to start 17th on the grid as the result of a fifth place finish during heat race action, Schatz did not fret, but instead put together an impressive charge to finish fourth, solid enough to also assure the evening’s Hard Charger Award for advancing the most feature positions.

Donny Schatz’ Eldora Speedway result on Friday was the product of row 12. The pilot of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Toco Warranty/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/Absolute Automation & Security/No. 15 sprint car was forced to start deep after failing to transfer through his respective heat race, but a fourth place finish during the evening’s Last Chance Showdown allowed the ten-time champ to start 24th.

“We are going to have to find a way to bounce back, and what better time to do so than during Williams Grove Speedway’s National Open,” Donny Schatz said, a former multi-time winner of the prestigious event that will award $65,000 in 2019. “We’ve had a lot of success at Williams Grove Speedway. Hopefully we can continue that this weekend.”

Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart Racing will continue their 2019 campaign with Williams Grove Speedway’s National Open on Friday and Saturday, October 4 & 5. Saturday’s 40-lap finale will award a monster $65,000 top prize – the largest top prize in Williams Grove Speedway history.
