BROWNSBURG, Ind. (October 1, 2018) – Despite ending the weekend on a frustrating note, finishing 14th during the Williams Grove Speedway National Open finale after getting caught up in an incident just before halfway, Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz showed Pennsylvania Posse fans the true definition of perseverance on Friday night during the National Open preliminary and rallied 12 spots to earn his 58th World of Outlaws top-ten finish of the 2018 season. As a result, Schatz earned the evening’s KSE Hard Charger Award for advancing the most positions during feature competition.

Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Textron Off Road/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/No. 15 sprint car, was forced to start 22nd on Friday night after not transferring through his respective heat race. Although the surface was still relatively narrow, the nine-time and defending World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion advanced through the Last Chance Showdown and locked himself into the $10,000-to-win program.

Although rallying to finish 14th after being collected in a spin, Schatz started sixth on Saturday night during the $56,000-to-win National Open finale, winning his respective heat race before finishing third during the second of two dashes to kick off the evening. Schatz was battling for a top-ten position when the incident occurred.

“It wasn’t the best weekend for our team. We enjoy visiting Williams Grove Speedway and we normally have positive results at that track. It just wasn’t our weekend, I guess. We’ll put this behind us and move on down the road,” Donny Schatz explained, who still owns a 234-point lead in the current World of Outlaws standings. “We have a fairly quiet weekend ahead in New York before we head back toward the Midwest. The end of the season is quickly approaching. I think we are all ready to get there.”

Donny Schatz will continue his quest toward a tenth World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series championship this Saturday night at the Fulton Speedway in Fulton, New York. Schatz finished third during his first and only appearance at Fulton Speedway in 2017, an event that will once again be in conjunction with Super DIRT Week.
